DJ Folk, Jeezy’s go to A&R and the man behind a lot of the music in your rotation, sits at the Cool Table to bust it up about TM103, his humble beginnings in the music biz, his time in the porn industry, twitter and more. Take a seat with us and learn a thing or two.
You already know whats first. I have to ask for the people. What was the deal with Tm103??? Why did it take so long to get a REAL release date? I feel like def jam did him dirty for some reason.
I think it was more preparation and Jeezy wanted to tour and just lived a lil bit. America’s Most Wanted 2009 then bp3 tour top of 2010…during the run of his first 3 albums he never really took any breaks….this music shit can drain you man…but it wasnt like he was bullshitting. i know for a fact hes at 240+ records recording for 103. One week he might have 20 records he loves he will record 7 or 8 better records than those. Def jam was in transition…. la reid was rumored to being fired for 2 yrs up until his departure in march…so i mean that was part of the def jam issue.
I see you’re roots are deep in the music biz. How did you manage to get your foot in the door??? also, whats the most important gem you can give to anyone that wants to get into the biz??
I was out in nc at NC A&T thuggin in the streets with my mixtapes in the early days. I developed a cult following, sent a package to Grand Hustle in 03 . Jason Geter (T.I.’S manager) hit me up like they want me to handle street team shit for them for Trap Muzik in 2003. That was pretty much how i broke in this music shit. Best advice dont depend on anyone but yourself. Grind and earn respect. Respect is definitely not given in this shit its earned.
You worked in the porn industry for some time doing music, I know that had to be dope. I’m guessing you also got a front row seat to all kinds of screwed up women and life struggles. How was the experience.
404girls.com was probably some of the best times (along with college) of my young life man. I was making beats in the porn studio as scenes were getting filmed. We had all kinds of broads come thru to do some thangs for some change on camera. The filth I was part of was so epic and memorable g…. i use to get sucked off just for being in the right place at the right time. I had 2 bitches i brought thru to do some shit for the site …. they never ended up doin shit for the site..i fucked one…then made them dyke it out in the car in broad daylight in the back seat of my struggle honda g…brings a tear to my eye
Lets talk about twitter. You kind of cut down your tweeting. Seems like you couldnt take the people anymore lol. “King Of SLander” was all you. What happened?????
ALOT of shit i did in summer 2010 and fall 2010 during the slander twitter waves im not the originator of the shit, but i contributed to alot of epic moments like me vs wayno was epic…the passion of the paint and lego man shit with relly was comedy. i got personal shit to make it burn more…. it was seek and destroy cause people put on huge fronts on twitter..tough on twitter church mice in person..but the sheep and the lemmings of twitter killed it for me. it gets old man quick. niggas started letting follower counts rt’s and their groupies make them feel like they are more important. Then people wanting attention from perfect strangers …like ok u got this cult following on twitter..besides a few events, some new bitches and some free clothes have u made money off of it?..If the answer is no…then its all for nothing. Every time u see me tweet certain shit i got a check delivered to my front door. Like wayno is a great example he started cool ment, now my nigga gettin money off of the cult following he has on twitter. Its a great marketing tool and definitely is a way to get money…cause jokes and slander can only get u so far in real life. If your bank account dont match your tweet or follower count. u need to get on your shit grind and prosper
