Ever since my mother moved me to Delaware from the home of Cory Gunz i’ve been watching BET. BET was once a place filled with inspirational black faces.

BET wasn’t always the special education of television programming. Most 80′s babies depended on BET to guide us through our teenage years. That’s exacty what BET use to do. A piece of BET still lives in each and every 80′s baby in our country. BET is the reason our moms/grandmoms still have remains of our fake studios in their basement. Rap City and Joe Claire mad us do that.
I say all that to say this.
I don’t know where things went wrong. Was it Bow Wow? Was it AJ’s braids? Hell Date? Cita? Who knows.
What I do know is I couldn’t be a part of it anymore. So I took a stand exactly a year ago. I vowed to never give BET any of my precious time. A lot of people felt this was an impossible mission. This day is proof impossible is nothing.

I’m not satisfied with just one year though. Nope. I’m aiming towards 100 years. We’ve made it this far…..now lets go further. BET doesn’t care about us…..

*Applause* I must say, I joined the campaign in week 8, and it isn’t easy being from the Tyler Perry, coon heavy south and denouncing BET. Its tradition to ask your cable or bootleg cable provider what channel is BET on, as soon as you get cable. But without a riot, boycotting BET didnt make them a better station, it made me a better me. I started to read the Bible more, spend more time with my daughter, I don’t smoke anymore and drink every other weekend most of the time. Even thinkin of starting a non profit for down trotten kids in my neighborhood. So salute Nerd, thanks for the site, and I have 8 more weeks to get to a whole year. Be Blessed.
